Sauna Materials
The wood inside a sauna defines its scent, durability, comfort, and resistance to humidity. In South Florida, where indoor humidity can exceed 70 percent year round, material selection is the single most important factor in long-term sauna performance.
Recommended sauna woods
- Western Red Cedar, the industry gold standard, naturally resistant to mold and mildew, low thermal conductivity, beautiful color and aroma.
- Canadian Hemlock, clean, light-colored grain, low resin, an excellent value option.
- Basswood, hypoallergenic, no scent, perfect for sensitive users and steam rooms.
- Thermo-Aspen, heat-treated for stability, ideal for benches in contact with skin.
